Short Distance Detour on I-70

July 18, 2012 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Overnight bridge work diverting traffic.

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close westbound Interstate 70 at the bottom of Floyd Hill for work on the Clear Creek Bridge tonight.

Beginning tonight at 7, all traffic will be detoured off westbound I-70 at Exit 244 – U.S. 6/Black Hawk – onto U.S. 6 for about ½ mile, under I-70 and back onto westbound I-70.  The detour remains in place until 7 a.m. Thursday.

In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-70 to U.S. 6 also will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Drivers can detour by traveling east on I-70 to the top of Floyd Hill, and using westbound I-70 or U.S. 40 back to U.S. 6.

Only minor delays should be expected from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with no delays expected after 9 p.m. due to low traffic counts.

CDOT is closing the highway to enhance traveler and worker safety and to accelerate the bridge work, which involves grinding operations to smooth out the road surface.

If the work is not completed tonight, it will continue tomorrow night during the same hours.
