US 24 Closed North of Leadville

July 9, 2012 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed all lanes of US 24 north of Leadville at mile marker 165 south of Red Cliff.

After examining the sinkhole that opened up earlier today, crews have determined that the highway will need to be shut down to ensure motorists’ safety and to continue to determine the full extent of the damage.

At this time, there is no estimated time of reopening for the highway and motorists should use State Highway 91 as an alternative route. Earlier today, the highway washed out as a result of heavy rainfall, and crews had to close the highway when a sinkhole opened up.
