Bridge Deck Rehabilitation to Cause Delays on I-70 This Weekend

August 24, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER – Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 24th and continuing until noon on Sunday, August 26, 2012, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will continue bridge deck rehabilitation on eastbound and westbound I-70 over Old Golden Road, which is near Colfax Avenue.

To complete the work, there will be both single and double lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-70 throughout the weekend.

“With the USA Pro Challenge starting in Golden on Saturday, we expect major delays in the area and strongly encourage motorists to seek alternate routes,” said CDOT Project Engineer Mike Bean.  “The recommended route is westbound State Highway 58 into Golden, but motorists should still give themselves extra time to travel.”

Major delays are expected on I-70, especially on Saturday morning, and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

The work on I-70 over Old Golden Road is part of a larger project that rehabilitates four other bridge decks in the Denver metro areas including:

  • I-70 over 20th Avenue- Work is complete
  • Eastbound State Highway 58 over I-70- Work is complete
  • I-70 over Havana Street (will likely begin work after Labor Day)
  • I-76 over 96th Avenue

Hamon Contractors Inc. is the contractor of this $2.3 million project which is scheduled for completion in October 2012.
