US 160/491 South Broadway Reconstruction

September 21, 2012 - PROJECT UPDATE - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Traffic switch and paving begins Monday.

Cortez, CO - On Monday, September 24, crews will temporarily restripe the northbound lanes of
US 160 (South Broadway) in preparation for shifting all traffic onto the northbound lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the 1-mile stretch of roadway. For the next seven weeks, crews will mill, grade and pave the southbound lanes of US 160 mainline in addition to making intersection safety improvements and installing a signal at the crossover of US 160 and US 491. Lawson Construction anticipates construction will be complete by December 2012.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

Current traffic impacts: Monday afternoon, travel lanes will be shifted to the northbound lanes of South Broadway and reduced to one lane in each direction. Crews will begin milling, grading and paving operations in the southbound lanes of US 160. Additionally, 7th Street will remain closed while crews mill, install detector loops and pave the side street approaches to South Broadway. Delays are anticipated.

Business access: All business access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, but may be altered at times. A local business access lane will be provided adjacent to construction activities. Signs listing all businesses located within each block will be posted.

Slow for the Cone Zone: Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving through the construction zone and to pay attention to flaggers and changing conditions such as lane closures, lane shifts, road closures and traffic control measures. Fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone!

Oversize Load Restrictions: There is no longer an oversize vehicle restriction for this project. However, lanes are narrow through the construction zone with 11-foot travel lanes and a 10-foot center turn lane. Drivers of overwidth vehicles must proceed with caution in accordance with the terms of their permit.
