I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

December 6, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – Full closures of the westbound Twin Tunnel on Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs are scheduled overnight next week for rock scaling and rock fence installation.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the following overnight closures:

  • Sunday, December 9, 8 p.m. to Monday, December 10, 6 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Monday, December 10, 7 p.m. to Tuesday, December 11, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Tuesday, December 11, 7 p.m. to Wednesday, December 12, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Wednesday, December 12, 7 p.m. to Thursday, December 13, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore
  • Thursday, December 13, 7 p.m. to Friday, December 14, 7 a.m.
    Eastbound and westbound traffic reduced to a single lane through the eastbound bore

PLEASE NOTE: During the closure periods above, 20 minute traffic stops are possible at various times to maintain traveler safety during rock scaling operations

On Sunday, preparations for head-to-head traffic begin at 7 p.m., with the single lane configuration in place by 8 p.m. Preparations begin at 6 p.m. on all other days, with the single lane configuration in place by 7 p.m. When I-70 is reduced to a single lane, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph and vehicles wider than 11 feet will not be allowed through the area.
