Construction to Restart on SH47 at the Bonforte Blvd. Bridge May 3

May 2, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - Traffic in head to head configuration

PUEBLO – Construction will restart May 3, on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) Mill and Fill project on State Highway (SH) 47 between Dillon Drive and Troy Street. The project included bridge rehabilitation overlay and bridge joint repair, milling and asphalt paving, and concrete curb ramp work that was completed in 2015. Crews will repair the Bonforte Blvd. Bridge for this year’s project phase. Work is expected to last through August 2016.

Martin Marietta Materials Construction Co., of Colorado was awarded the $6.4 million contract by CDOT.

“These improvements are necessary to extend the life of the Bonforte Blvd. Bridge and to provide motorists with a safer ride,” says CDOT Project Engineer, Steve Spera, “We have determined the most effective detour plan to minimize impacts to the public.”

Traffic Impacts

Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Eastbound traffic will be shifted into the westbound lanes in a head to head configuration. Once crews are finished with the work on the south side of the Bonforte Blvd. bridge structure, westbound traffic will shift into the eastbound lanes in a head to head configuration while crews complete work on the north side of the bridge.  The speed limit will be reduced to 45 MPH through the work zone. Detours will be in place.

Signed detours will be in place, and will include Jerry Murphy Rd. and Troy Ave. Motorists are encouraged to plan for extra travel time during working hours. The University and Belmont bus routes will be impacted during construction. University will serve the bus stop at CSU-P, but will not serve stops on Comanche or Montbello. The Belmont route will not serve the stop at CSU-P. Please plan accordingly.
