Traffic impacts to I-25 on-ramps September 25-29 include nighttime closures at southbound and northbound Academy Boulevard on-ramps

September 23, 2022 - Southeastern Colorado - Operations will occur during nighttime hours

El Paso County -The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor SEMA Construction will temporarily close both on-ramps at South Academy Boulevard to northbound I-25 and southbound I-25 for paving operations.

September 25-29, 8 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. - Full Ramp Closures

I-25 southbound North Academy Boulevard on-ramp

  • Detour Route (see map)
    • To access southbound I-25 from N. Academy Boulevard, motorists will take North Academy Boulevard, turn right on Kelly Johnson Boulevard
    • Turn left onto North Academy Boulevard
    • Stay in the right lane to access the I-25 southbound

I-25 Southbound North Academy Boulevard on-ramp detour onto Kelly Johnson Boulevard

I-25 northbound Academy Boulevard on-ramp 

  • Detour Route (see map) 
  • To access northbound I-25 from North Academy Boulevard, motorists will turn right on Voyager Parkway to Briargate Parkway, turn left
  • Stay in the right lane to access the I-25 northbound on-ramp

September 26 – 8 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.
I-25 northbound right lane closure for crews to remove barrier.

September 26-29, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Crews will be working on the left shoulders of the northbound and southbound N. Academy Blvd. on-ramps and the right shoulders of I-25.

  • There will be an 11’ lane restriction on the ramps.
  • The speed limit is 40 mph on the ramps.

Project Overview

The I-25 ramp metering project will widen ramps and install ramp metering along I-25 and the southbound Woodmen Road on-ramp, northbound and southbound Academy Boulevard on-ramps, and northbound North Gate Road on-ramp. The duration of the project is expected to be from June to November, 2022.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
