CDOT to host first public meeting on preliminary design for I-70B South of Rood Improvement Project

September 15, 2022 - Northwestern Colorado - Event will take place on Thurs., Sept. 29 in Grand Junction

Mesa County — The Colorado Department of Transportation invites Grand Junction business owners and community members to learn more about the Interstate 70 Business Loop south of Rood improvements from south of Rood Avenue to East Main Street. The public meeting will highlight preliminary design concepts for the upcoming safety and mobility improvements to address congestion; bring multimodal improvements that will allow for a safer and more comfortable travel experience for cars, pedestrians and cyclists; and provide effective business access along the corridor. These improvements were identified during the 2008 Environmental Assessment and previous public engagement efforts. Project team members will be available to answer questions and provide project details and next steps.

This event is an in-person public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Mesa County Central Services Building at 200 S. Spruce Street (conference room 40A) in Grand Junction. The public meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. Stop by to speak with CDOT staff and technical experts.

Project Information

The I-70B South of Rood Improvements Project is in the preliminary design phase in Grand Junction from south of Rood Avenue to East Main Street. Construction funding is available from south of Rood Avenue to approximately Third Street and is scheduled to begin in spring 2024. Construction for the remaining 1.5 miles from approximately Third Street to East Main Street will be announced when funding has been secured.

The preliminary design stage includes improved street connections, multimodal improvements, signal replacement, utility infrastructure improvements, lighting enhancements, and landscaping enhancements. The project is the next in a series of phased improvements on I-70B. It follows the I-70B 1st Street and Grand Avenue Improvement Project.
