Funeral procession honoring Sgt. Michael Moran to take place tomorrow in Cortez

December 5, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - US 160 closed in downtown Cortez beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6

Cortez, CO — Cortez Police Sergeant Michael Moran, who died in the line of duty Nov. 29, will be honored in Cortez this Wednesday. During the funeral procession, US Highway 160 will be closed from East Roger Smith Avenue to South Elm Street for approximately two hours. Motorists will be guided by signs through the detour.

Traffic Detour

A detour will take place Wednesday, Dec 6. between 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

  • Westbound US 160 closure located at East Roger Smith Avenue
  • Eastbound US 160 closure located at South Elm Street
  • US 491 traffic will be detoured onto West Empire Street and Sligo Street
  • US 160 thru traffic will be detoured onto Sligo Street and East 7th Street

The funeral procession is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:20 a.m. and the community is welcome to show their support by standing along US 160 (Main Street) between Chestnut Street and Harrison Street. The funeral is not open to the public.

  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
