CDOT performs shoulder repairs east of Bayfield through February

December 28, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - Motorists should plan for brief delays on US 160 between Bayfield and the Beaver Creek Ranch Subdivision

La Plata County — Beginning January 2nd, the Colorado Department of Transportation will perform month-long erosion control operations on a four mile segment of US Highway 160, just east of Bayfield. Operations will take place Monday and Friday between Mile Points 105 and 109. Motorists should plan for 10-15 minute delays, flaggers and one-lane alternating traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m each day.

Crews will work swiftly to stabilize the shoulder of the highway however, work is weather permitting.

Traffic Impacts

Daytime work hours range from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., January 2 to February 2, 2024.

  • Motorists can expect full stops and up to 15-minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
  • Vehicles will be guided by signs and flagging personnel
  • A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
