Resurfacing Project on US 36 to Begin Next Week

May 2, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER – On Sunday, May 6th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a resurfacing project on US 36 between I-25 and Pecos Street and on Broadway (State Highway 224) under US 36.

The project will rotomill and pave less than one mile of US 36 in asphalt as well as Broadway under SH 224.

“This section of US 36 was last reconstructed in 2001 and has since been patched and repaired by CDOT maintenance crews numerous times as it is in poor condition,” said CDOT Project Engineer Bryan Kalliokoski.  “By paving, we will greatly improve the condition of the highway, making for a much smoother ride for motorists.”

To complete the work, the following lane closures will be in place throughout the project:

  • Westbound US 36: Sunday through Thursday, one lane of westbound US 36 will be closed starting at 8 p.m. with a second lane closing at 11 p.m. All lanes of westbound US 36 will reopen by 5:30 a.m. each morning.
  • Eastbound US 36: Sunday through Thursday, double lane closures can be expected on eastbound US 36 from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Broadway under US 36: Sunday through Thursday, single lane closures can be expected on Broadway under US 36 from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • HOV lanes on Eastbound and Westbound US 36: The HOV lane on eastbound and westbound US 36 will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, May 11th until 4:30 a.m. on Monday, May 14th for rotomilling and paving operations. This work is weather permitting.

Delays are possible throughout the project and alternate routes are advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

Brannan Sand and Gravel Company, LLC of Denver, CO is the contractor for this $1.6 million, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2012.
