National Highway Institute (NHI) Training
CDOT's Office of Employee Development offers National Highway Institute (NHI) classes to transportation engineers across Colorado. NHI instructor-led training is tailored for transportation professionals at every stage of their career; courses are scheduled in-person and virtually. A CDOT Subject Matter Expert attends each class to answer any CDOT related questions that may arise.
Fiscal Year 2026 NHI Classes with Public Seating:
CDOT's fiscal year (FY) runs from July 1 through June 30 each year. Currently, NHI is only approving course requests for Bridge and Tunnel Inspection related instructor-led classes. CDOT is working with NHI to bring a handful of classes to Colorado in FY26. All external partners will need to create a Login.gov and a Blackboard account to be able to enroll in NHI training. This involves three key steps to create two separate accounts:
- Create your Login.gov account.
- Create your Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) account.
- Link your accounts.
Follow the instructions on creating your Login.gov account and Blackboard account to ensure you're ready to enroll in instructor-led NHI training when sessions are scheduled.
Free Web-based Training
Your Blackboard account also gives you access to over 220 free web-based NHI trainings on a variety of preconstruction and construction topics. These flexible self-paced modules are a convenient way to sharpen your skills and stay current on transportation topics on your own schedule. References can be accessed online at any time, and every course bookmarks giving you the ability to revisit modules on an annual basis. A final exam may be required for certain web-based trainings.
