I-70 Monthly Update - March 2023

March 2023

Project team holds public meeting on March 7

On March 7, the I-70 Floyd Hill project team held a public meeting and open house at Clear
Creek High School at Floyd Hill to engage with stakeholders on the project design and
construction, and to answer questions. Over 120 people attended and interacted with the
project via an open house session and presentation provided by project team representatives.

Looking ahead

Construction is slated to begin on the I-70 Floyd Hill project from west of Evergreen to east
Idaho Springs in mid-June 2023. The construction project is divided into three sections:

  • East Section: I-70 from County Road 65 to the bottom of Floyd Hill
    Start: June 2023
    End: Spring 2026
  • Central Section: I-70 from the bottom of Floyd Hill to Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway
    Start: Fall 2024
    End: End of 2028
  • West Section: I-70 from Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway to Idaho Springs Exit 241
    Start: Fall 2023
    End: Fall 2027
  • Work will begin in the east section, which includes adding an extended on-ramp from US 6 to eastbound I-70, improving drainage and adding water quality features, building a third travel lane on westbound I-70 that will operate as a full-time tolled Express Lane from the top of Floyd Hill to the Veterans Memorial Tunnels, rock blasting and scaling, and installing wildlife fencing between Hyland Hills/Floyd Hill (Exit 247) and Soda Creek Road (east of Exit 248).
  • Motorists can anticipate traffic shifts, narrower lanes and shoulders, lowered speed limits, overnight lane closures, occasional traffic holds during rock blasting and scaling operations.
