Bicycle and Pedestrian Facility Design Training

CDOT offers free, comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Facility Design Training to help practitioners design safe, low-stress infrastructure throughout Colorado. Program Overview

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) offers comprehensive training focused on the current state of practice for safe, comfortable, and low-stress multi-modal infrastructure. These courses are designed to help practitioners implement safety countermeasures and design flexibility across Colorado’s transportation network.

Cost:

Free for all participants (including CDOT staff and external partners)

Target Audience:

Program engineers, resident engineers, project engineers, region planners and other staff who may work on bicycle and pedestrian projects are encouraged to take the training. The training is open to CDOT staff, as well as external partners including local and regional agency staff, consultants, and safe streets advocates.

Course Descriptions

  • Pedestrian Facility Design Training: This full-day training updates participants on current safety concerns as well as countermeasures to provide safe and comfortable pedestrian facilities along highways and arterial roads.
  • Bicycle Facility Design Training: This full-day training (intended to be taken following the pedestrian training) will provide a deep understanding of the design needs of a variety of bikeway users as well as a review of the current state of the practice in providing safe and comfortable bikeways.

Our instructor-led courses are held in person throughout Colorado during the Spring and Summer, with virtual options available in late Fall and Winter.

    • Bicycle Facility Design: June 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Durango
    • Pedestrian Facility Design: June 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Bicycle Facility Design: June 5, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fort Collins:
    • Pedestrian Facility Design: September 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Bicycle Facility Design: September 22, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Pueblo
    • Pedestrian Facility Design: September 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Bicycle Facility Design: September 29, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registration Instructions

Registration is managed through the State of Colorado Learns (SOC Learns) Portal.

Step 1. Access the Portal

Step 2. Find and Join a Class

Once logged in, navigate to Learning > Search for Learning and search for:
