Bridge inspections have been taking place this fall on highways throughout Southwest Colorado.

Chaffee County— On Thursday, the Colorado Department of Transportation will conduct inspections on the CO 291 bridge structure, just north of downtown Salida. Motorists can expect brief delays and one-lane alternating traffic, Mile Points 2 to 3, to allow for worker safety during operations.

Crews will work swiftly to complete the bridge work however, work is weather permitting.

Traffic Impacts

Operations will take place Thursday, November 2 between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

  • Motorists should plan for 10 to 15 minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
  • Expect one-lane alternating traffic guided by signs, cones and flagging personnel
  • A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
