Motorists can expect delays east of Alamosa

November 7, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - Crews will be completing repairs on US 160 and CO 150 through November

Alamosa & Costilla Counties — Beginning tomorrow, the Colorado Department of Transportation will perform erosion control work on US Highway 160, approximately eleven miles east of Alamosa. Motorists will encounter full stops and delays through Friday, November 17 as crews work to reinforce the shoulder of the highway.

An additional 3-week long crack sealing operation is scheduled to begin Monday, November 13 along Colorado Highway 150. Motorists traveling towards Great Sand Dunes National Park should plan for up to 20 minute delays through the work zone, beginning at the US 160 and CO 150 Junction and continuing 16-miles north to the park entrance.

Crews will work swiftly to complete operations, however work is weather permitting.

Traffic Impacts

Daytime work hours range from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Motorists can expect full stops and delays and should allow for extra travel time
  • Vehicles will be guided by flagging personnel
  • Drivers should slow down and use extreme caution when approaching and driving through the work zone
  • A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
