November 17, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - Plan for brief delays next week south of Hesperus

La Plata County— The Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be working on Colorado Highway 140 south of Hesperus next week. Crews will be repairing potholes along a ten-mile stretch of CO 140 between Marvel and the US 160 junction, mile points 11 to 21. Motorists will encounter brief delays of up to 15 minutes.

Crews will be working from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, November 20 through 22, weather permitting.

Traffic Impacts

Daytime work hours range from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.

  • Motorists should plan for 10 to 15 minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
  • Expect one-lane alternating traffic guided by signs, cones and flagging personnel
  • Drivers should slow down and use extreme caution when approaching and driving through the work zone
  • A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
