CDOT crews to pave short section of CO 142

July 21, 2023 - Southwestern Colorado - Motorists should plan for delays east of Manassa through late August

Conejos & Costilla Counties— Beginning July 24, motorists can expect full stops and up to 20-minute delays while the Colorado Department of Transportation paves CO Highway 142 near the Rio Grande. Operations will continue through late August and take place approximately ten miles east of Manassa (Mile Points 13 -15). Motorists are encouraged to plan for lengthy delays, Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

CDOT crews will work as swiftly as possible to complete the surface treatment however resurfacing operations are weather dependent.

Motorists traveling on CO 142 between San Luis and Manassa can expect full stops and 15 to 20 minute delays while CDOT completes paving operations through late August.

Traffic Impacts

Operations will take place Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Motorists should plan for 15-20 minute delays and should allow for extra travel time
  • Expect one-lane alternating traffic guided by flagging personnel and pilot cars
  • A speed reduction of 40 mph will be enforced through the work zones

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
